“Thanks for all your help over the past few months. You have been a brilliant support to the team…”
In addition, I worked closely with Business Gateway in establishing the business and an article was published recently in the Greenock Telegraph and that article is reproduced below:
Financial expert Derek figures out next move
An Inverclyde accountant is reaping the rewards of starting his own business after being made redundant
Derek Taylor set up his own financial management company earlier this year utilising the skills and experience he’s amassed over the last 20 years in the industry.
Derek Taylor Finance (DTF) is based in Greenock and offers internal management information and reporting, accountancy and other financial services to clients in Inverclyde, Glasgow and surrounding areas.
With support from Business Gateway Inverclyde, DTF has secured both small and large companies as clients and is hoping to attract more SME’s as he builds the business.
Derek said: “I graduated over 20 years ago and gained my professional qualifications following training in various locations in the UK. Since then I’ve worked within finance in a range of industries and organisations from large blue chips, SME’s and charities. I had been considering self-employment for some time so when I was made redundant earlier this year it prompted me to go ahead with what I planned and set up my own business.
“I worked very closely with Business Gateway and in particular enjoyed the guidance and support of Barbara Mennie in Greenock. Barbara’s experience helped me get the business on the path to success and meet many regulatory issues.”
DTF specialises in taking responsibility for the administrative burden of finance and administration that many SME’s face. This allows management to focus on expanding their business while Derek looks after financial tasks including accounts payable, credit control, cash management and bespoke solutions for particular tasks.
Derek added: “Flexibility is one of our selling points as we aim to satisfy the different needs of each client. We’re still a new business so the immediate plan is to attract further clients and build the business in Greenock and Glasgow. Next year the business will be more established and we hope to get our name more widely known in the area and develop from there.
Barbara Mennie, Business Adviser, Business Gateway Inverclyde said: “We provided advice and specialist support to Derek which has provided him with valuable and necessary skills. This included training opportunities via our fully funded workshop programme that allow new and existing business owners to learn and develop their skills.”
